Here you are hiring an Elle Plus TENS machine & a Comfortable Upright Birth Stool together. Hire for 8 weeks. They will both be shipped to you together at about 36 weeks gestation, and all you need to do is return it back to us by your 8th week of hire. 

Elle TENS Plus Instruction Manual

For hire is an Elle TENS Plus. This labour TENS offers amazing pain relief during labour. The Elle Tens Plus is the ultimate in obstetric TENS, specifically designed for use during labour, and is perfectly safe for you and baby. The Elle Plus is advanced as it has both a Birth mode and Pain Mode. So you may prefer one mode over the other during your labour.  It has a large display screen, pre set modes and most importantly a boost button with Optimax technology. It can even time your contractions if you wish and is easy to use with no fuss.

• Elle TENS Plus machine hire for 8 weeks with CUB hire together. From 36 weeks gestation for 8 weeks.
• 6 x new electrode pads (additional 2 x electrode pads as spares or if you need to use the TENS in the immediate postpartum)
• 2 x lead wires
• 2 x new AA batteries (we recommend organising another set of battles for just in case).
• A carry pouch (to be returned to us please).  
• Easy to read instructions
• Australia Post Prepaid sticker for easy pre-paid return, to be placed onto the compostable satchel that the TENS arrives in. We are caring for the environment.

The Comfortable Upright Birth (CUB) stool is a comfortable, versatile, inflatable support designed to help mothers adopt and maintain positions that are physically helpful for them and their babies during labour and birth.

The CUB is hired for 8 weeks and it comes with:

• an electric pump
• a drawstring bag
• in a box

Research has shown that upright labour positions can make labour itself shorter and giving birth easier, as well as reducing the risks of common complications during birth caused by restricting natural movement. The CUB support is a multi award winning, patented support designed to help mothers adopt and maintain labour positions that are physically the most helpful for them and their babies during late pregnancy and childbirth.

The CUB can be used throughout labour as a comfortable support, either to sit on, rest on or lean over as well as to give birth to the baby on, squatting with support, all fours supported, asymmetrical kneeling. Also provides support with epidural. The CUB is suitable for use in maternity hospitals, birth centres or at home-births. 

The CUB is extremely versatile and can be used in many different ways, all of which are encouraging of the most labor efficient positions. Whether using as a seat or something to lean over, being able to move freely can help the baby become optimally engaged in the pelvis more easily. This can lead to contractions being more effective and labors being much shorter.

Being in the supported squat-like position that the CUB comfortably allows, opens up the pelvis up to 30%. When we are talking about the tight path a baby has to take to be born, that additional space can make all the difference.

In addition, research shows that birth in an upright position can lower fetal distress and heart rate abnormalities by a compelling amount.

Epidural Use: How a CUB can Support you during your labour and birth?

If you have an epidural, it is important that you keep your body moving as much as possible during labor. Staying mobile during your labor encourages your body and baby to work with gravity and movement, helping your baby descend and encouraging your labor to progress.

Usually, your midwife is in charge of helping you rotate/flip/change positions every so often after you have an epidural placed.

Using a CUB while on epidural will help you maintain an upright position, allowing you and baby to work together with gravity, encouraging labour to progress. Sitting the upright position on a soft stable surface also allows for 30 percent more pelvic space. The CUBs design allows for baby to be born while sitting upright without having to reposition. (CUB to be used assisted and supported whilst on Epidural, with bottom chamber deflated).

CUB is an essential must have for all mamas requesting an epidural, and for mamas who wish to use it as a tool for birth, a more comfortable birthing alternative to a chair or a toilet seat.

How does hire work?

Let us know your due date in the calendar section on the hire page. We will have the TENS/CUB to you just when you are around 37 weeks gestation. If you require the TENS before then, after you have booked, please email hello@birthmother.com.au letting us know. If you are further along than 37 weeks, we will know to send your hire out as soon as possible, however it will be sent via regular post. So if you would like to receive it ASAP, don't forget to choose Express Shipping at checkout. You will receive a reminder when your hire is due back to us, just so you don't forget.

You can book your TENS/CUB whenever you like.  If you prebook, we will ensure that they arrive to you around your 37 weeks gestation. If you are due very soon, we will aim send your hire off as soon as possible. Just choose Express Shipping at checkout. 

You return the TENS/CUB back to us by placing the TENS/CUB and all its contents/accessories in the prepaid pre-addressed return satchel that was provided to you. Then drop it at your local Australia Post. Please keep your receipt from Australia Post so that you can show us in case something goes wrong with the return.

Test your Elle TENS and inflate your CUB as soon as you receive it. Familiarising yourself with them and their functions will make for a more stress-free experience when your labour begins. We do however ask that you do not use the CUB to lounge on. If you have any problems or questions make sure you contact us ASAP so we can make sure you have everything sorted and ready for a beautiful birthing experience.

Please note that the CUB user weight maximum is 120kgs and it is made of bio-compatible PVC which can outperform many other materials in flexibility, strength, tear resistance and abrasion resistance. The CUB has a two separate inflation chamber safety system: so even if one chamber deflates the other will continue to safely support the woman. ​It complies with BS/EN14960 which is the required standard for the manufacture and testing of inflatables and is a class 1 CE mark registered medical device.
